Thanks for your comment Anna - and thanks for your reply Whitney.

Whitney is right - there are MANY ways to get people to Like your Facebook Page. But don't forget the bigger question - so you've got someone to 'Like' your page - now what?

You must seriously consider what your Facebook marketing strategy is in relation to your overall business BEFORE you get too concerned with attracting random people to LIKE your Page.

At the very least, your Facebook marketing campaign should include a "Call to Action" so that you are channelling your Facebook visitors to an offer, a promotion, your website, etc.

And even then you STILL need a call to action to get them to actually buy your product...

Whitney and myself are marketing professionals and either of us would be happy to work with you to help develop a comprehensive marketing strategy...

What do you think Whitney, Anna?

Anna - there are lots of ways to get more people to "like" you on Facebook including advertising to specific targets, or developing contests that encourage fans to recommend your page to their friends! If you'd like some more ideas feel free to send me an email :)

i've got a business page for park homes and Holiday Homes on facebook too, but the problem is only a few people like it because you can only recommend friends. For friends you have to make a fake profile of yourself and then add people from the same geographic zone that would be interested. But the question is that why would people add an unknown stranger and after inviting a few dozen people you are barred from adding any more friends on facebook.

Thanks for your comment Sean.

I can see the real estate market benefitting from technologies like the new 'location based apps' that are being developed now too. Augmented reality - another cool technology tailor made for the real estate market...

Now if only realtors were willing to pay for this technology ;)

Thanks again for your comment!

Thanks for the nice article, Don. I have a background in real estate and as you mention it used to be the case that if you were out of town, business came to a halt. But now, thanks to social media, you're able to stay "top of mind" with clients and potential clients, by sharing messages/articles/newsletters/ads, even if you are on vacation!

For me, I believe that every business really need to engage their businesses into something that interact with people. In that way it get more popular and build a relation to prospect customers.

About your article, it is very interesting and I've learned a lot from it.

This is a great discussion and post! As the owner of a Social Media Marketing company and the daughter of a Realtor I have seen the results of using social media with real estate first hand! Its a great and inexpensive tool to get more information out to potential buyers and sellers.

Many people who are looking at the real estate marketing are no longer flipping though papers and checking our local listings but are instead going first to sites like Craigs List and Kijiji and at the same time checking out local agents Facebook and Twitter pages for more detail. The more information (bonus if its visual information) you can get out the more people who may be interested will see it!

If you'd like some more info please email me at whitney@omgwtfcreative.com or check out my website www.omgwtfcreative.com - I offer packages specifically for Realtors!

I have had great success with using social media for my East Lansing real estate business. It may be a little extra work, but it helps with networking.

Thanks for your comment.

I bought my first house just over two years ago. I wasn't on Twitter then and neither was my realtor. I I were buying a house today, I'd probably have more 'conversations' with my realtor vis Twitter than I would over the phone...

By the way - consider getting a gravatar at www.gravatar.com so that your logo/picture appears whenever you leave a comment on a blog/website, etc.

Cheers!

Excellent post Don. Very few people talk about the power of social media with realty.

The fact of the matter is that social media is actually closer on the spectrum of referral and word of mouth than advertising, seo, ppc and other forms of online marketing are. Social media is trust, vote, referral and community - all of the elements that make realtors successful when they are.
