“THEY are Coming”, says David Risley

by Don Power on January 22, 2010

in Great Ideas

“They are coming” according to a recent video post by David Risley (links at bottom of this post).

Millions of people arent online yet - but THEY are coming!

Millions of people aren't online yet - but THEY are coming!

But who are they? And why should you care?

And who is David Risley, anyhow?

Many of you may already know that David Risley is the self proclaimed ‘Six Figure Blogger’ who makes his living from problogging and Internet marketing.

He has spawned some recent controversy with statements like “a professional blogger should not reply to all blog comments” and “the top 10% of successful bloggers are making an average of only $19,000 a year”.

So what separates David Risley from all the Other Internet Marketing gurus?

Now, whether you like David Risley or not, there is no denying that he has been very successful making a living online.

And what separates David Risley from the other blogging and Internet marketing “gurus” is that David applies fundamental marketing principles to the topic of blogging.

Other gurus are selling only mechanical blogging tactics and techniques such as traffic building and Twitter tricks.

But David Risley does a great job of explaining WHY you need traffic to your blog and how to leverage that traffic from a marketing standpoint – as opposed to a more mechanical “how to get more traffic” approach that most of the other professional bloggers are talking about.

Risley is Different – got it. But you still didn’t tell me who THEY are…

OK, so in one of David’s recent videos posts, he says that “THEY” are the millions of individuals and businesses who still have not embraced the Internet and Social Media Marketing.

Yes, believe it or not there are still hundreds of millions of people out there who don’t know what Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin or blogging are.

And the fact that you are in disbelief of this already MAKES YOU AN EXPERT in the eyes of those people – who are coming by the millions EVERY DAY – to find out what this thing called the Internet is all about!

Some of my Best Friends are “Them”

Think about it for a minute…90% of my Facebook friends have no idea what blogging and Twitter are. Yet those same 90% are entrepreneurs, business owners and employees who are just now starting to realize that they can’t hide from social media marketing any longer.

This represents a tremendous ray of opportunity for bloggers such as myself who have an extensive background in offline business marketing but who have been reluctant to make a living from blogging through the traditional ‘ad sense/ebook/affiliate marketing’ approach.

Instead, says David Risley, for those of us who already “know how to do this stuff” (ie: social media and marketing) we can go out and sell our services to the hordes of businesses who are on the horizon, barreling toward the Internet with a question mark in one hand and a dollar bill in the other!

ACT QUICKLY! There are millions of “US” too!

If you are in any way interested in making money online, do yourself a favor – first take a look at David Risely’s video on The Blunt, Simple Truth About Making
Money Blogging
where he explains the concept of “They are coming” at around the 17:00 minute mark.

Then, signup for his free webinar on Monday – January 25 where he will discuss this concept in even more detail. But HURRY – remaining spots are limited!

(Note: I am not an affiliate of David Risley and I have in no way been compensated for this post!)

David has given me a lot of his time recently, an awesome guy. Yeah we share little differences in our thinking, but it doesn’t make him right or wrong.

What I like about David is he doesn’t pretend to be this amazing superstar, he doesn’t wear a suit on his videos, a normal guy doing his thing.

A bloody good bloke, family guy and knows what he is talking about when it comes to marketing, because he is making a shed load of cash. What he makes in a year would pay my mortgage!

Don, my brother, when you gonna guest post for me again?

Hey James!

Thanks for your comment. Although I’ve read about the controversies with David Risley – the more I se, hear and read from the man himself, the more I tend to agree that he’s not out to fool or mislead anybody or to agrandize himself.

He’s made money online – he’s done it. And when he has products to sell to help others follow his steps, I never get the impression that it’s a hard sell or that he’s beating people over the head with his message.

I’ll be on David’s webinar on Monday and for anyone reading this who is interested on capitalizing on the “coming hordes” of Internet and Social Media newbies coming online everyday, I recommend that they do the same!

Now, as for a guest post for http://www.TheInforpreneur.net – yah – I think I’m just about ready to submit another one. I’ll put a post together next week for your consideration!

Cheers and thanks James!

I’ve read some ebooks from David. He has the power and style of convincing you very well. Because he is talking about his own experience you can’t outfit him. The only question is ‘Can you follow every steps as David?’

Regarding ‘They are coming’, its true, there are millions and millions to enter daily in this market. And I agree completely with you that there are million of us too! In fact it is the survival of the fittest. Isn’t it?

I’ve transformed my Facebook account from being a bunch of people who I met once three years ago in a pub and have never talked to since to 95% bloggers, educators, marketers and entrepreneurs. I use Twitter, but I find that if I’m really to get to know someone better and let them know me better, then Facebook is the better bet. No character limitations help a lot! :)

David is a guy who is walking the talk every day and is showing how he does it and from what I’ve seen is more than willing to help anyone succeed.

I actually would love to join the webinar but will be unable to as my operating system is not supported – I use Ubuntu Linux 9.10.

I emailed David and he said that he’d also be doing ustream I think it’s called so I’ll be checking that out for sure if things go well.

Thanks for telling us about this. I don’t tend to watch video blogs (interferes with hubby’s football viewing ;) ) so I wouldn’t have known about this otherwise. Do you know if they’ll be an option of listening to a recording online? Long distance phone calls are a bit of a pain when you’re working for a charity for free ;)

One of the things that strikes me is the amount of “normal” people (i.e., other than web or software developers) that are so knowledgeable about web site creation and marketing issues.

I think it’s a mistake to think anybody can coast on his laurels or to think you can make money just by blogging about how to blog.

I think the largest opportunities for earning a livelihood on the Internet will be to provide some kind of online service. This would limit who can do this to either those who can develop or those who can pay others to develop.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Making money online by telling other peopke how to make money online is not a sustainable business model because we are all marketing to each other

With offline folks ad businesses coming online though, we can sell our expertise to brick and mortar businesses on how they can use the web to selll more of their stuff – not how to make money by blogging!

It appears that David Risely is tapping into this idea and other than Seth Godin I haven’t seen anyone welse taking this approach. It will be interesting to see if Risley carries this idea forward in today’s webinar!

No offense, but there it is. :)

Hey Dennnis;

No offense taken. I am VERY skeptical by nature. I’ve been involved as a newbie blogger for a few months now and I bought one $7 ebook on copywriting and one course (that I’m going to try and get a refund on).

So, I haven’t drunk the coolaid, whether from Risley or anyone else. But What makes Risley differnt from the rest, at least what I’ve seen from him recently, is that he talks about fundamental, sound MARKETING principles. And every other ‘expert’ I encounter in this so called Internet Marketing (IM) game is talking about traffic building tactics, list building tricks but they aren’t alking about marketing at all (only other exception to this rule is Seth Godin but he is not about the “make money blogging” niche at all).

Anyway, the idea thah millions are coming to the Internet, in itself, is not news, but the concept of positioning yourself as a marketing expert offering something other than a new “make money blogging” course to those millions – that does appear to be a new approach in this niche.

I just hope Risley follows through on this theme instead of simply shilling his next product offering (which will be discussed on this webinar – he has been upfront about that!).

Thanks for your comments! Look for a follow up post fom me tomorrow and I’ll let you know whether or not there was anything “new” discussed on the webinar.

Cheers!

Interesting take, and you’re right to a point. Without traffic, and/or subscriber lists of some kind, there is no one to market too. ;)

It is extremely important, traffic is #1 essentially.

That aside, it is indeed a two way street. What’s the point of 100,000 subscribers that you don’t know how to market too. LOL

The marketing tactics and principles is what I’m all about; mainly targeting newbies in direct sales taking their businesses online, I am of course open to all.

I’ll be much more tightly focused now moving everything to a new blog. I was getting too much into the blogging tips…this will be a 2nd blog of it’s own eventually.

Striking post title! :-) Ok, to answer ‘which group is larger’ of those I know, gotta be the age group 40 & above (yes, mostly uncles, aunties.. ); however of those who actually using social media, less than 10% are using it for business purposes. To them, I’m a ‘weirdo’ who’s all over social media including Blogs, Twitter, Facebook but never touched Farmville or MafiaWar. lol.. “What’s the fun if you’re not playing games on FB?? Just what are you doing up there?”

I see a potential group there. There will be a day when they’ll be using it more than just games online. David’s right, we ought to be prepared for that. :-)

I thnk if you are in Internet Marketing you have to stop thinking about how to make money by telling others how to make money blogging. It has to be about how to use blogging and other social media trends to sell more of whatever it is that the business in question is selling.

There is a profound difference in these two approaches and therefore , a tremendous opportunity for those who can understand the difference and capitalize on it!

Not all I need to do is monetize my friends and I’ve got it made ;) .

Seriously though, If any of then decides they that they need to market their business or if they need help getting a blog started, etc, etc. who better to teach them than a trusted friend who has already gone through the learning curve.

Again – this is nothting new – but when think less about teaching your friends how to make money blogging and instead you conentrate on answering their question of “How can blogging make money for my business” then you truly are onto something big!

It’s also interesting to hear you talk about how most people are not really all that clued up and web savvy. As marketing becomes even more web focused it’s clear that being able to get your message out – about whatever – is going to be an increasingly valuable skill. Selling something of real value is the most generative and effective long term strategy I can think of.

I know it’s implied that your course will address this but a webinar should really add some value and really provide some meat for folks to sink their teeth into. And I don’t think you delivered, unfortunately.

That’s fine, Don. The focus of my webinar was not how to serve businesses, however. It is only one opportunity for bloggers, however it is not the primary focus of what I do.

There is also about 100 pages of reports and an hour of video that came out before that webinar. So, I beg to differ – I gave a lot of meat.

But, I got it. Thanks for the posts nonetheless. :)

I’m currently working with a local baker who is trying to expand the reach of her business. I’m actually doing a wholistic approach, we’re focusing on boosting her sales regionally and then adding the web component as a way to stay in touch with new and referral customers, as well as reaching new customers. I’m also doing some writing projects and developing some marketing plans for others.
It kind of caught me off guard actually, but so far the results have been encouraging – I was surprised by the demand for writing – I just assumed that because I enjoy it that everybody does. Glad I was wrong about that one :)
