How to Make Fire from a Block of Ice

Ok – so you really can make fire from a block of ice. There’s a link at the bottom of this post for those who want to see the actual steps involved…

But for those of you who know me or have read my posts before, you know I’m all about the metaphor…

So, what do I mean “metaphorically” when I say you can make fire from a block of ice?

Well, the ice is your instrument, the tool you use to manifest whatever it is you want – whether it’s a blog, a job, or whatever…

And the fire?

Well, that’s the result.

Most of the time, the ice is hard, cold, cloudy and hard to handle.

But if you start with a clear block of ice, it can be shaped, polished and focused into a lens.

And the lens can harness the energy that’s all round to focus on the task at hand.

And the result? The ice starts a spark that turns into a fire!

Clear your mind. Focus your energy. Start a (metaphorical) fire!

Did you just scroll down or did you actually read the post ;)

:) Very nice thought, ties in well with the discussion you started over on my site, about starting points. Ultimately it’s not the tools we should focus on, or our current situation. When we’re focused on the goal the tool will shape itself to the need.

“When we’re focused on the goal the tool will shape itself to the need.”

This reminds me of something discussed in one of my philosophy classes regarding how we give meaning or value in light of our projects (goals).
When we need a hammer to reach a goal, then everything we look at will be evaluated in the context of how good a hammer it would make.

Hey Michael!

I was thinking about Africa in particular when I commented on your blog about starting points. I always feel a little guilty being a Westerner with the concept of “self actualization”. We already have it all.

Reminds me of someone I came across years ago, after they came back from an extended trip to the African continent (I think a lot of westerners still erroneously think of Africa as a country).

She said that everything was fine when she returned to North America but then she went into a drugstore and broke down crying when she saw so many brands of shampoo on the walls…(sounds almost like a post traumatic stress reaction when you thnik about it).

Maybe my comment is too obtuse…it’s just that we in the west worry about self actualization while most of the rest of the world worry about survival. Gives me a shudder, until it’s time to go to the store to pick up a bottle of shampoo…

Both Fire and Ice are primitive elements that resonate with us humans. Knowing how to control both is what separates us from the apes!

Here’s to submission of Ice and Control of FIRE!

Hahah! When I was writing this – I had all the pictures of the sun shining through the block of ice on my screen. The picture was a lot more vivid for me…

Nevertheless, I stand by my post – imagination happens to be a very useful tool too!

Great comment (and very appropriate timing looking at the weather!)

You can find inspiration in everything. You just need to look.

Sometimes we look, but we don’t see.

This is so true. When you have a clear idea of what you want and where you want to go you will get there much faster. If you’re running around without a plan it’s going to show and you’re not going to do very well.

Staying focused in one of the many keys to a successful blog.

Very logical idea and inspiring one too. Making fire from ice – It like getting tons of traffic into a new blog but that the job. If someone can make fire from ice why you can’t earn traffic in your newly launch blog! Just one need to use right idea and need to choose good path.

Very interesting post. It seems to be like a fresnel lens. They are the lens that were used in older televisions – the ones with the curved screens. They help bring out the image, and make it larger. I presume that it is why the man’s head above is so big. If that is the way he looks all the time then no offence meant. ;)
There are good examples of giant fresnel lens being used to melt steel on youtube.

I admit I like the idea of starting a fire with a block of ice a little better than the metaphor, but maybe that’s just because it has not been above freezing at my house in three weeks!

I was wondering what the post is about when I saw your title. :) Impressive as I like how it starts with a metaphor to make us think further. I interpret this as finding a way when there seems to be no way; make things possible at the least possible situations. Inspiring and I do wish to start a fire for my blogging career this year! Here’s to a wiser decision making for a greater achievements to all!

Just like the endurance athlete who can make his or her body do things we never dreamed were possible, so can a person’s mind be trained to ‘make fire from ice’. Great analogy and excellent thought for the day.
