Hey Don….

That may be your second post, but this is your first real comment. You’ve joined the legions of Thesis users – give yourself a pat on the back – Thesis is very well designed from an information architecture/search spider’s perspective.

Good luck with this site…

Ok – so this is how you reply in the blog’s interface but I’m guessing there’s a better way to do it in the admin interface?

I have to agree with everything Greg said about Thesis. So, nice job picking a good theme. Now you’ve somewhat inspired me to have a go at blogging. If only I had something to blog about… Well, I’ll be checking back in for inspiration.

Good Fortune!

Hahah! You’ve been reading my latest post too – thanks Chris!

I tried a couple of free themes in my first attempt at blogging a few months ago. But the second I had to change even something so small as a font size, I was at a loss. I”m not a coder so I figured the basic stuff would have to be setup so that you could modify easily – NOT!!

I did some research and found out about Thesis. I’m not using it to its ful potential yet but 2 things that I’ve found about Thesis to be worth the $87 bucks you spend for it:

1. You can adjust the number and width of columns VERY easily. This becomes very important when you are trying to design your sidebar (and sidebar widgets). if I had to code all the changes I made, I’d be hosed!

2. The Thesis support Forum. If you have a question about anything Thesis, there are hundreds of experts hooked up with this forum and they answer your questions in detail, pretty much right away. This alone has been worth the 87 bucks to me.

For me, the hardest part was not (is not) coming up with topics tro blog about – it’s the mechanics of actually building a blog if you want it to be customized at all. If you want to do customizations and support – go with Thesis.

I hear you zeesu. I have 3 computers at home – my wife uses the best one, my 7 year old daughter has the next best one and I have the oldest clunker.

I’d love to run out and get a new laptop and a new digital video camera but for now I’ll try and make do with what I have.

The key is to do it, to not try and be perfect. Getting started is much more important than being perfect or having all the best tools!

Thanks for your comment!

Love your blog. Thanks for all your great tips and encouragement. I never thought about using Twitter for SEO. Duh!

Now I need to figure out how to change my Twitter name to match my site’s name without losing followers. Any suggestions on doing that?

Hi Liz!

Thanks for your comments and compliments!

Yes, these days, I’m amazed how people can find you just as a result of getting your name and/or your brand name “out there”. (Look for an upcoming post about how to Use Google Alerts to find how/where your name shows up out on the web!).

Google now has integrated “real time search results” for Twitter, so Google is constantly indexing Twitter – it’s probably one of the best ways to start getting your name recognized by Google!

Now, as for how to change your Twitter name without losing followers, here’s a solution that seems very easy – I haven’t tried it myself but Jon Bishop is a real web whipper snapper so I’d trust his advice:

Jon Bishop – How to Change Your Twitter Name Without Losing Followers.

NOTE: I’m not sure if you have a blog or not but what I did above is called a ‘TRACKBACK’ which means Jon will get a little link juice from me but also, my URL to this post will appear as a comment on Jon’s blog – so it’s a really cool way to share ‘link love’ and to cross promote good content!

Here is another approach to changing your Twitter name by Mark Shaw. It looks pretty similar to the procedure from Jon Bishop but you can read it for a second opinion. I’ve been following Mark on Twitter for a long while – he makes his living giving out Twitter advice so Im sure you can trust his procedure as well: Changing Your Twitter Name without losing followers.

A couple of more things:

1. I noticed that you have a Gravatar (good!) but it doesn’t link to anything. Once you change your Twitter name, if you still don’t have a blog or a website, link to your Twitter account in Gravatar. That way when you are commenting on blogs and such, at least people can click your picture and lik to you on Twitter!

2. I think I may be following you on Twitter already – but in any event, send me a link to your new Twitter account or simply send me an @reply on Twitter and I’ll follow you back!

3. Feel free to come back and comment her once you’ve made the change i Twitter to let me know how it went!

Thanks again Liz! Happy New Year!

Wow! Thanks for taking the time to reply in such detail.

and Happy New Year to you too!

PS. I’m following you on Twitter with another blog/avatar. This avatar is for blog # 2 which is not on Twitter, yet. :)

Aw, see – you’re WAY ahead of the game already – hahah!

So, am I following you back on Twitter ? (I don’t autofollow) I’m on there now, feel free to send me an @reply and I’ll follow you back if I’m not following you already.

Thanks again for engaging with me and my blog!
