This spa-m comment was recently picked up by my WordPress Askimet Plugin. donpower.ME is a DOFOLOW BLOG so I see some spa-m from time to time (nothing excessive though for all the DOFOLLOW curious).
Not all sp-am is as obvious as this one. In fact some of the Askimet hits I’ve had to look at a second time – only to confirm that Askimet has an even better sp-am filter than me.
So, the point of this post?
1. Show your fellow, legitimate commentors some luv – make your blog a DOFOLLOW blog.
2. Use the Askimet plugin or beware – all your base are belong to us
By the way, you may have noticed that I spelled spam as sp-am in this post. I read that you can get your post flagged if it contains the correctly spelled word too many times in your post.
Anyone know if that’s true or not?

Akismet totally rocks. Saves me a lot of trouble. A must have for all bloggers.
Especially the Do Follow blogs
You mean spelling of the word “spam”? I doubt it. Lol!
Hey Gordie!
Yah – I read that if you have the word spam everywhere that this can get your post blocked, marked as spam… I don’t know sounds a little far fetched to me to but to be on the safe side I eliminated use of wors spam…

I got to sit down and spend some time on making my blog dofollow. I tried a few plugin’s but think I have something conflicting with them.
Might be Intense Debate since it Java Script based but I think it should still work. Thanks for the link I think I have read it but will spend some time this weekend seeing if I can convert to Dofollow and verify as I meant to do this last month but had some issues.
My blog is a do follow one only. But since i use blogger i don’t know wether there are such type of tools available.
Yes, there are do follow plugins available for blogger blogs.

Hey Don,
Akismet rocks.
The official Spam (tinned meat of top nutritional value) seems to do okay with the word plastered everywhere.
Yah – I think someone was pulling the spam over my eyes regarding the overuse of the word spam.
- Don
That should have said the official ’site’. Me and my clumsy fingers.
Some of these S-P-A-M comments are really funny. I once got a bot that actually used one line jokes – some were quite funny (and fortunately stopped by askimet all the same).

Hi Don,
I agree with the above, askimet is awesome. Without it I was getting tons of spam comments and now, lovely askimet picks it all up.
Great screen capture, thanks for sharing
How does it do that? The funny thing is, I had two comments sent in non-English which askimet allowed through for me to moderate. To we need to worry if the spammers learn Italian?!
Eleanor Edwards´s last blog ..How to Bottle What Makes Your Soul Sing
yes – we do have to worry. Spammers are always changing their tactics.
But if you think about it – how does including a comment like :
hbasfhbjsuhgifhbyuuwsefjh ksufkbs m sjbfckskfjkj v ,n,jns,jnsnjf.com
actually make someone, somewhere, some money?
Weird!
Thanks for your comment Eleanor!

I never really think about Akismet. I guess that means it is good. I guess I have been a no follow blog, not knowing how to be different. I installed a no follow plugin so I hope this means that I am a do follow not.

Great post! I agree that Do Follow blogs are doing a positive service for those who contribute via comments. I didn’t know that plugin existed, so I installed it at chucklasker.com.

Hey Dennis!
Thanks for the support. BloggerLuv suffered a malicious attack from a Russian hijack IP and got knocked out of commission.
But we will rebuild it…better…faster…stronger!
Cheers!
Thanks for your comment.

I could not live without Akismet, it TOTALLY rocks, and my blog is dofollow like yours as well and Akismet helps to filter tons of crap every day, though I suspect I would have the same thing whether do follow or not.

Cheers!
Thanks for your comment!

I’m not using Akismet but like the above comments I have heard nothing but good things about it. Right Now I’m using NoSpamnx and it seems to catch all the garbage. I’ve heard of keyword stuffing but not because the word was spelled correctly…just to many repetitions of the same word spelled the correct way or not.

Akismet rocks, I love it. It has stopped nearly a thousand spam comments for me!
It drives me mad when I see the same type of spam comments all the time!

I went dofollow about 2 weeks ago and haven’t noticed any appreciable increase in spam. I’m pretty sure the spam vs sp.am is hokum. If anything I’d think that a lot of non words like that would be more likely to raise an alert.
I hate to admit it but some of those spammy jokes crack me up. I’m sure a blog populated with only spam comments would generate some novelty value.

Actually since reading this post yesteday I discovered that Akismet had taken three legitimate comments (from people I actually know) and decided they were spam. I have no idea why and only discovered it when I got communication through Facebook. Now I at least check on Akismet since I know it is not infalable.

I often wonder about some of the comments caught by Akismet If I wait long enough to approve a spammy comment and am not sure chances are I will see it pop up on another blog, then BAM spam button. Ha. Haven’t heard about having the word s p a m in a post getting it marked. Be interesting.

I can’t never imagine how my life would be without Akismet. Even though my blog is no where famous but the spammers/bots always have the way to come over and drop me some links.. tons of links actually. Their skills are getting more advanced, some are very good in modifying words that I nearly approved. After I googled it more than 50 results with the exact phrase. sigh…
Akismet is not perfect but good enough. A must have for do-follow blogs.

Hahah – no I really want to know. I’ll spend some more time at your new site and check it out for myself. I’m hoping it is what I think it is – setting up a do it yourself affiliate sales system – so you can sell stuff (and get commission) for a local company for example.

OK then sorry about that; thought you might be testing my knowledge and 140 character skills. LOL
Actually no, but an excellent idea. When I speak of direct sales, I refer to physical product e-commerce; people already with a company. Think Avon as a loose example.
There’s a lot to it, but the gist is, these companies offer little to no support; that’s where I come in.
The good news is, marketing is marketing for the most part….physical products to blogs; some differences for sure, but not too many.

my comment was brief, just the general gist. It’ll be a marketing tips blog like most, just slanted towards a particular niche so to speak.
Some things pure “IM’ers” may not need (unless they have an imagination), but as I said, for the most part marketing is marketing online.
